Wotherspoon focussed on excelling for Hibs
David Wotherspoon is focused on continuing to produce the goods for Hibernian.
Wotherspoon perhaps epitomises Hibs' recovery from a lengthy period of underachievement to their current position, which could see the capital club climb to the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League with victory over St Mirren.
The 22-year-old has been a key performer for Scotland Under-21s in recent seasons, but perhaps a victim of his own versatility at Easter Road, where he has often been the subject of supporters' frustrations in two-and-a-half years of struggle.
Now, handed a roving right-wing role by manager Pat Fenlon, Wotherspoon appears to be thriving.
Asked to explain his form, which has included three goals and numerous assists this term, Wotherspoon said: "There are little bits and pieces. Playing in a consistent position has been one of them.
"I've also had a bit of confidence in myself, just believing I can do things and do well for the club. That's been the main boost that I've had."
Wotherspoon also cited a settled side, which the rest of the squad are eager to break into.
"The consistency throughout the team has been great," he added.
"The boys on the bench and in the stands have been terrific throughout the week.
"They train really hard throughout the week and it keep us on our toes all the time."
This is a key season for Wotherspoon, who is out of contract in the summer.
Rather than knock on Fenlon's door during his rich vein of form, Wotherspoon has been concentrating on proving his worth on the field and is prepared to weigh up the offers when they come. They are certain to flow should his current performances continue.
"I've just been focusing on performing as much as I can and hopefully that will get me somewhere," he said.
"At the moment I've just got to focus on myself and my performances, work hard for the team and get as many points as we can.
"If I don't perform well I could be nowhere. I just have to focus on myself, enjoy my football and see what happens."
Defender Tim Clancy is a doubt for Hibs. The right-back has taken a limited part in training since last Friday's win at Motherwell when he returned from a groin injury and Alan Maybury is on standby.
St Mirren defender Marc McAusland admits they will have to pay special attention to Leigh Griffiths on Saturday.
Griffiths has been one of the key factors in Hibs' turnaround in fortunes this season.
The on-loan Wolves striker took his tally for the campaign to nine when he netted two penalties in the 4-0 win at Motherwell.
And McAusland knows all about Griffiths' goalscoring prowess - the 22-year-old has hit doubles at St Mirren Park in each of the last two seasons.
McAusland said: "He is a really good player, he takes his chances and works his socks off, so he is obviously somebody we need to keep an eye on.
"He has done it here a couple of times and has been banging them in for Hibs week in, week out, so he is someone we need to take very seriously.
"I saw their goals from Friday night and it looked as if they played really well. They took their chances well and 4-0 is a great result at Fir Park.
"It's something to think about but if we play well then hopefully we can come away with a result."
St Mirren go to Easter Road in confident mood following their Scottish Communities League Cup quarter-final win over Aberdeen.
McAusland was one of the heroes of their penalty shoot-out triumph as he stroked home his spot-kick.
"I was always confident, I would always fancy myself," the centre-back said. "It was good to hit one, that's my first one in a penalty shoot-out.
"I volunteered. I had said to the boys earlier on in the week that I would hit one no bother. Not many people volunteered."
St Mirren manager Danny Lennon has no fresh injury concerns after his players came through 120 minutes of action in their cup win at Aberdeen on Tuesday unscathed.
Long-term absentees Paul McGowan, Darren McGregor and Grant Adam remain on the sidelines.
