Stanton completes Hibs fightback

Hibernian bounced back from two straight Championship defeats when staging an amazing late rally to beat Dumbarton 3-2 at home in the Scottish League Cup.

Hibs applied plenty of pressure in the first half but could not find a way through as Alex Harris had his shot cleared off the goal-line, Farid El Alagui's low strike was well saved and no-one was able to get on the end of a superb David Gray cross.

Dumbarton found their feet at the start of the second period though, and went ahead in the 52nd minute when Mitchel Megginson connected with a cross from the right and his acrobatic shot ended up in the net, while Mark Gilhaney then doubled the visitors' advantage when scrambling the ball home from a set-piece.

However, El Alagui pulled one back for Hibs with a header in the 78th minute and the striker bagged an equaliser six minutes later before substitute Sam Stanton completed a famous fightback with a thunderous shot in the closing stages.
