Goodwillie targets Terrors starts

The Tannadice youngster netted in Scotland under-21s' win over Albania, before coming off the bench to grab a last-gasp equaliser for United in their SPL clash with Hibs. Goodwillie is desperate to be involved with the top team every week and hopes his efforts have not gone unnoticed by Craig Levein. "I'm delighted with the goal," he said. "I turned 20 last week when I was away so to score two goals in a few days, I couldn't ask for much more. "It was good to be involved but it's up to the manager to pick the team. Hopefully the manager can see I'm maturing every day. "It's good to get games that mean something instead of playing reserve games where you don't really get anything from it." Goodwillie found the back of the net against Hibs as a teenager and admits his goalscoring tally in the SPL since then has not been quite as prolific as he would have hoped. "I was 16 at the time and it always seems to be against Hibs," he said. "I've not really had much of a chance to score again. That's my first goal in the SPL for a while and it was good to get. "When I saw the ball coming in, I just knew it was going to land at me. I think I kicked about three people as well before it went in!" Hibs appeared to be cruising to victory when Colin Nish netted twice in the space of four minutes early on, before Craig Conway missed from the penalty spot for United. However, Garry Kenneth hauled the home side back into the game shortly after the restart, before Goodwillie had the final say in injury-time. He believes the draw is enough to keep United in the hunt for European football next season but admits they must do better after the league split. He said: "We would have been struggling so I think it was a big goal. It keeps us four points clear of Hibs. "We then need to win as many games as we can after the split if we want to get into Europe." Nish refused to rule out Hibs making a late bid of their own for a Europa League berth, insisting: "We are doing well and I think we have a right chance. "We just have to make sure we get into the top six first and then I'm sure we would be fully confident after that." But he admits he should have killed off any hopes of a United comeback by finding the back of the net again. "I had another two chances after I scored," he said. "I'm just disappointed we didn't get the three points - it doesn't matter who scores, really. "The three points was the most important thing."
