Bundesliga strugglers Kaiserslautern have confirmed their interest in Hibernian striker Derek Riordan.

The 23-year-old has impressed a number of English teams by netting 13 goals for the Edinburgh club this season, but Kaiserslautern have now emerged as shock contenders for his signature.

The Bundesliga's bottom club have revealed they watched the Scotland international in action in Saturday's 3-1 win over Dunfermline, in which Riordan scored twice.

General manager Olaf Marschall admitted: "Derek Riordan is one of the very few players we are looking at. He's one we have in mind."

Hibs have indicated that they are keen to keep the player and certainly seem unlikely to sell the player before the weekend, with a local derby coming up at Hearts.
