Hibernian boss John Collins has admitted the chances of Thierry Gatheussi moving to Easter Road are fading.
The 25-year-old Cameroonian defender has impressed Collins during pre-season training but has now returned to his French side FC Sete.
"It could happen or it couldn't," the Hibs boss told the Edinburgh Evening News.
"It's one we thought we were going to get done but, as the days drift by, it's looking less likely.
"It's been dragging on but we've other irons in the fire and we'll move on. There's no point hanging about, you can only spend so much time on it.
"I don't like to talk about deadlines but the longer it goes on the less likely it is to happen."
