Collins candid over Murphy
07 Nov 2007 - 08:12:09
Hibernian boss John Collins has dismissed talk of left-back David Murphy leaving the club in the January transfer window.
The 23-year-old's current deal runs until the summer of 2010 and Collins is in no mood to part with Murphy, although he accepts that the Englishman will return south at some point in the future.
He told the Edinburgh Evening News: "He is a quality footballer and I am sure that there will come a time when we receive an offer that we can't refuse.
"We have got to be realistic. I could say that David Murphy is going nowhere, but we all know that is not the case. He will move on eventually, but it won't be in January.
"The lad comes from England and has always said that he would like to go back there eventually.
"We would love to give him everything that he wants, but it's just not possible because we are not in the English Premier League and that's where he wants to be playing his football at some time in the future."
Murphy moved to Easter Road in the summer of 2004 after being released by Middlesbrough and has gone on to make well over 100 appearances for the SPL club.
