Canning enjoys Hibs bow

Hibernian defender Martin Canning was a happy man after making his debut for the Easter Road club in the 2-0 victory at Falkirk.

The 26-year-old former Gretna defender joined Hibs in the January transfer window, having not played at all this season due to a serious ankle injury.

However, he was called up to face the Bairns on Wednesday evening and hopes for a run in the side in the coming weeks.

Canning commented: "I'm delighted with the way my debut went, a great three points and a clean sheet. I really enjoyed it.

"When you've been out of football for a while like I've been, it's such a great feeling when you're back involved and playing.

"My last full 90 minutes was the last game of last season, so it's been a long time.

"You're so desperate to get back and, like I say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. My fitness is fine, I just need games, but I'm feeling great."
