Calderwood wants Webster

Manager Colin Calderwood believes there is more to come from his new recruits following the 2-0 win over St Mirren - and he hopes Andy Webster could soon join his rebuilding project at Easter Road.

Following Hibs' first win since November and first goals of 2011, Calderwood confirmed his interest in bringing Scotland defender Webster, who was released by Rangers on Monday and has been linked with a return to Hearts, to Easter Road.

Calderwood said: "We've had contact. The decision is entirely Andy's but I think that would be a superb addition."

Derek Riordan and David Wotherspoon were on target in the second half to end a run of 11 hours without a goal and give Calderwood a third win from 18 matches in charge.

But the manager reserved special praise for new signings Matt Thornhill, Victor Palsson, Akpo Sodje and Richie Towell and hopes his squad will continue to gel in the 10 days between now and the next SPL match with Kilmarnock.

"One or two of the new boys had a good influence on the team," added the Hibs boss.

"There's certainly more to come from Thornhill because he's short of fitness because of the lay-off and I think there will be more to come from all of them.

"They look as if they want to make a stamp on it right from the start.

"They want to join the rest of the boys and help everyone get out of the trouble we're in."
