Brown at the double for North End
After a competitive but goalless first half, the Championship side went ahead a minute after the interval when Neil Mellor got past Sol Bamba and fired home.
Mellor was involved in North End's second after 69 minutes when he crossed for Chris Brown and although he missed his kick with the first attempt, he was on hand to divert home Callum Davidson's shot after Ross Wallace had rescued the ball.
And Brown made it 3-0 nine minutes from time when he headed home Barry Nicholson's cross, with Hibs getting one back three minutes from time when Richard Chaplow put through his own net.
