Booth not looking too far ahead

Callum Booth has played down the prospect of promotion to the Scotland senior team following a stellar start to his career with Hibernian.

Booth made his Hibs debut in January's Scottish Cup fourth-round replay loss at Ayr, coming off the bench with 10 minutes remaining. However, since then he has started all eight league games at left-back and completed the 90 minutes in each appearance.

Booth, though, is merely hoping he can keep his place in the Scotland Under-21 squad for this month's match with Belgium - and in the Hibs team for Saturday's SPL match with St Johnstone. He said: "My main aim is just to play on Saturday. I'm not really thinking about anything else."

He added: "I'm just looking at every game, just one step at a time. I'm not thinking about playing for Scotland or anything. My aim for Scotland would be just to keep in the under-21 squad for the friendly at the end of this month."

Calderwood handed Booth, who has come through the youth ranks at Hibs, a new long-term contract last December while the youngster was on loan at Brechin before recalling him.

The manager has been rewarded by a string of strong displays, capped by a goal in last Saturday's 2-0 defeat of Inverness, when Booth collected a Derek Riordan throw-in before launching a dipping volley over Caley Thistle goalkeeper Ryan Esson.

The left-back added: "It sat up perfectly for me, I looked up and saw the goal and thought I'd have a go. It was a good moment."

The 19-year-old was named Clydesdale Bank Premier League Young Player of the Month for February.
