Booth looks to keep on winning

Full-back Callum Booth hopes Hibernian can carry on winning and challenge for a place in the top six of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

After three straight wins, following a miserable 12-match winless run, Hibs are now looking up the table, rather than over their shoulders at relegation. Although Colin Calderwood's side enter this weekend's fixtures in 10th place in the SPL, they are eight points behind Saturday's opponents Inverness, who currently sit in sixth place.

With seven games remaining before the SPL split, Booth is optimistic Hibs can continue their run and reach the top half. "There are still enough games and enough points to be won to get in the top six," said the 19-year-old left-back.

He added: "We've got to believe that we can. We just need to take one game at a time, look at Inverness, hopefully take three points there and keep pushing up the table."

Booth made his Hibs debut in the Scottish Cup replay loss at Ayr, coming off the bench with 10 minutes remaining. However, since then he has started all six league games at left-back and completed the 90 minutes in each appearance.

Calderwood handed Booth, who is from Haddington in East Lothian and has come through the youth ranks at Hibs, a new long-term contract last December while the youngster was on loan at Brechin.

Booth added: "I spoke to the manager and thought I'd start coming on the bench and stuff and hopefully get myself into the team. That's what's happened so far and hopefully I can keep my place in the team.

"I'm loving it at the moment. I've only played six or seven games, I'm still learning and I'm still relatively new to everything. My biggest target is to keep in the team, play as well as I can and get as many minutes as I can."

Booth was acutely aware of Hibs' poor form, even when on loan at Brechin.

He added: "My family and friends are Hibs fans so I couldn't just shut it out. My dad will not say too much, but you know what's happening, that we were in trouble and on a bad run. You couldn't hide that fact."
