Bairns hope Hughes stays as boss

Hughes has earned positive reviews for his season's work after steering the Bairns to SPL survival and the Scottish Cup final, where they lost 1-0 to Rangers on Saturday in an evenly-matched contest. Hughes has been linked with the vacant jobs at Aberdeen and Hibernian, and Craig is not surprised that he has admirers. However, the managing director is hopeful that Hughes will still be in charge at Falkirk when the new campaign gets underway. "John has worked closely with me and understood the difficulties and pressures I've got in running us as a business. We have no option but to do that," Craig told the Daily Record. "John is ambitious and if he gets a chance to further his career elsewhere, I would be a hard man to stand in his way. "But he is the Falkirk manager and hopefully we can plan the future together. "Hibs and Aberdeen? I would say there could be a lot of clubs out there watching the performance at Hampden and saying to themselves, 'Who is the guy responsible for that?' "They are going to look at John and say he is a top, top manager." Hughes admitted over the weekend that it was flattering to be connected with hometown club Hibs. He cannot be certain what will happen over the summer but maintains that he is looking forward to competing in the Europa League with Falkirk next term. "I'd like to lead them into Europe. But I've learned in this game that when you think one thing, something else happens," Hughes explained. "I'm quite happy at Falkirk. If I'm at Falkirk for the next five years I'll be as happy as Larry. "In terms of getting linked with other clubs, I'd like to think it was because of the style of game we play. "Everybody knows what Hibs mean to me, in terms of being a supporter, born and bred in Leith. But that doesn't mean to say you're the guy for the job, you know?"
