Hertha Berlin general manager Dieter Hoeness has ended his 13-year association with the club with immediate effect.
The brother of Bayern Munich sporting director, Uli Hoeness, is believed to have stepped down following differences with the club's board.
The departure has been confirmed despite Hertha finishing a creditable fourth in the Bundesliga table this season.
A brief statement explained the shock departure, saying: "The board and general manager had different views lately over the policies for sport and business."
Hoeness originally joined the club when they were in the second tier in 1996 and helped establish them as a Bundesliga force.
