Hertha secure double signing

Bundesliga basement side Hertha Berlin have bolstered their squad for the second half of the season with the signings of Bayer Leverkusen striker Theofanis Gekas and Schalke midfielder Levan Kobiashvili.

Greece international has joined on a six-month loan, while Georgia international Kobiashvili links up with Hertha on an initial short-term deal running until the end of the season.

Coach Friedhelm Funkel told the club's official website: "Theofanis is a real goalscorer. He doesn't need a lot of chances to find the net.

"Additionally, he's very fast and that suits our style of play perfectly."

Meanwhile, general manager Michael Preetz added of Kobiashvili: "We are delighted that Levan will come to us. With his experience he will undoubtedly give us more stability."
