Hertha boss Funkel stands firm

Hertha Berlin head coach Friedhelm Funkel has defended his tactics, despite his side being rooted to the foot of the Bundesliga table.

Funkel took charge of Hertha in October following the sacking of Lucien Favre, but has been unable to mastermind a change in fortunes, leading to the questioning of his methods.

Funkel commented: "We are not frustrated. We are heading in the right direction and we, and above all I, will continue that way without any distraction.

"I think this criticism is totally over the top. Against Mainz we played attacking football like never before, particularly in the second half.

"I cannot understand it in the slightest."
