Funkel handed Hertha post

Friedhelm Funkel has been named as the new coach of Hertha Berlin, on an initial contract running until the end of the season.

The 55-year-old former Eintracht Frankfurt boss has stepped in following the sacking of Lucien Favre, but has warned that it will take some time to turn things around.

He said: "Hertha is a top club in my eyes, even if it does not seem that way in the league table at the moment.

"The team has the potential and we want to try and bring that out over the coming weeks. But nobody should expect miracles, because that maybe needs a bit of time.

"It is simply great to coach a Bundesliga side."
