United youngster joins Bulls

Manchester United midfielder Sam Hewson has joined Hereford United on loan until the end of the season.

Hewson is part of United's Premier League squad and was named in the shortlist for the Red Devils' reserve player of the year for the 2007-08 campaign.

The attacking central midfielder revealed that Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson helped to persuade him to make the move.

Hewson said: "Our gaffer told me good things about how Hereford play and their passing style.

"I am confident I can help the club to get a few results and climb up the table."

Hewson's agent revealed that there were Championship and other League One clubs interested in acquiring the player's services, but 'Hereford came as the obvious choice' for the 20-year-old.

Hereford have also extended the loan of Carlisle United defender Josh Gowling by another month.
