Midfielder Jamie Pitman is hoping to banish the memories of relegation from the Football League by helping Hereford United win the Nationwide Conference play-offs.
The 28-year-old is one of two members of the Bulls squad who were with the club in 1997 when they drew 1-1 with Brighton on the final day of the season to drop out of the league, with the Seagulls surviving on goals scored.
On-loan goalkeeper Chris MacKenzie is the other survivor.
Pitman told the Hereford Times: "It would be really nice to be part of the side which goes back to the league, because for the players who were here at the time it was hard to take.
"You don't get many chances to achieve something in football, so we really want to do that this time."
The Bulls face Aldershot in the play-off semi-finals having won their last 11 games to finish just one point behind champions Chester City.
