Bulls reveal exit reasons
23 Nov 2007 - 10:42:10
Hereford United claim the chance to keep two on-loan players until the end of the season persuaded them to allow Lionel Ainsworth to leave Edgar Street.
The in-form winger joined Championship side Watford on loan deadline day with a view to a permanent transfer when the window reopens in January.
The Bulls admitted they didn't want to lose the eight-goal winger, but the sweetener of Watford allowing Toumani Diagouraga and Theo Robinson to extend their loan spells until the end of the season persuaded them to do business.
The Bulls also have an option to sign Diagouraga on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
"Minutes before the close of the emergency loan period a deal was concluded with Watford for Lionel Ainsworth to join them initially on loan, with an agreed deal for the player to sign a permanent contract in January," read a club statement.
"Hereford United had no desire to sell Lionel and, under normal circumstances, would have refused Watford's request. However, it was felt that securing the services of Theo and Toumani until the end of the season was vital to us, in our quest to gain promotion.
"It also enhances Hereford United's reputation of giving young players an opportunity to develop at our club - important when attempting to sign players either on loan or permanently."
Meanwhile, the Bulls have secured the services of Liverpool youngster Ryan Flynn on a month's loan.
