Hereford United defender Dean Beckwith will not require an operation on his broken jaw, but is not expected to play again until early December.

The 24-year-old suffered the injury in Friday's 1-1 draw at Chester City and it was originally thought that he would not play again until Christmas.

Bulls physio Wayne Jones told the club's official website: "He's not too bad, he's at home resting at the moment and the specialist thinks he'll be out for six weeks.

"He went to hospital in Chester and had the X-ray. We then brought him home on Friday night and he saw a specialist in Hereford.

"He's not going to have an operation. It's the same healing time whether you have an operation or not and the specialist felt that the operation wasn't needed.

"He'll be able to return to training shortly, to keep his fitness, but there won't be any contact for him.

"He's got another appointment with the specialist in two weeks' time, so we'll obviously know more about how he's doing and when he's likely to be back then."
