Stevenage 0-1 Hereford: Report

08 March 2011 22:39
Colbeck corker clinches it Joe Colbeck scored a superb winner with just seven minutes remaining to stun Stevenage and clinch three precious points for Hereford in their battle to avoid relegation. It was looking as though the clash would remain goalless until Colbeck let fly from distance to plant an effort into the top corner and seal a 1-0 triumph for the Bulls. Stevenage had just about the better of a disappointing first half. The hosts opened well early on with Craig Reid firing a shot just wide from just outside the box. United responded with Stuart Fleetwood's shot producing a fine point-blank stop from Chris Day. The best chance of a goalless first half fell to Stevenage 10 minutes before the break when Byron Harrison let fly from just inside the area, but his effort fizzed inches over the crossbar. Hereford enjoyed the better of the second half opening and substitute Nicky Featherstone came close late on when his shot flew inches wide from just outside the 18-yard box. The best the hosts could offer was through fellow sub John Mousinho who crashed an effort narrowly wide, leaving Colbeck to show how it is done and settle matters in Hereford`s favour.
