Rotherham 0-0 Hereford: Report

16 April 2011 19:24
Millers draw blank against Bulls Rotherham have surely waved farewell to their lingering play off hopes and failed to impress new boss Andy Scott after a disappointing goalless home draw with Hereford. As hard as Rotherham tried in the first half, they simply could not find a way through Hereford's massed defensive ranks, though the visitors could have taken the lead in only the second minute. Stuart Fleetwood chased Stefan Stam's long clearance and with home goalkeeper Jamie Annerson waiting on the edge of his area, Fleetwood almost nipped in to steal. But from then on it was almost all one-way traffic, with Top Pope and Ryan Taylor leading the charge and both going close. Ryan Cresswell had a header cleared off the line from a corner and was then inches wide with another header from Tom Newey's throw in. And Rotherham looked certain to score when Adam Bartlett fumbled Nicky Law's shot but Bartlett redeemed himself with a brave block on Ryan Taylor's follow up shot. Hereford showed more ambition after the break with two men up front and a belief they could grab all three points. And they almost did after 70 minutes when Joe Colbeck smashed a shot against the upright. But still most of the attacking came from Rotherham, but even when leading marksmen Adam Le Fondre came off the bench with 20 minutes to go, the home side could not find a way through.
