Pitman frustrated by Townsend red

Jamie Pitman questioned the decision to show Michael Townsend a red card during Hereford`s 1-0 defeat at Macclesfield on Saturday. The Bulls skipper, who was also dismissed against the Silkmen in this season`s fixture at Edgar Street, was somewhat harshly given his marching orders as Matthew Hamshaw went down just inside the area under pressure. Pitman had little doubts over the resulting penalty decision but was unconvinced by the red card that followed. "I thought it was probably a penalty but I thought the sending off could have been a bit harsh," said the United boss. "There seemed to be a number of players around him but I'll have to have a look at the DVD. "It's just frustrating that it happened in this game. Ryan Green could have had the match ball. We had 10 shots and eight of those fell to Ryan, but it's good to know that we can come to a physically strong side such as Macclesfield, pass the ball around and compete." Townsend will now miss the first two matches of next season.
