No McDonald delivery for Gills

Cody McDonald failed to score for the first time in five games as play-off hopefuls Gillingham were held to a goalless draw by Hereford - extending their unbeaten run to 14. The 24-year-old Norwich loanee hit the post in the opening stages while strike partner Adebayo Akinfenwa also came close for the hosts in the first half. Stuart Fleetwood had a great chance to steal it for Hereford in the second half but was denied by Alan Julian as Gillingham drew for the ninth time in their last 14 games. McDonald, who has 22 league goals this season, nearly put the Gills ahead in the second minute but his lobbed effort bounced wide before Jack Payne also missed the target. Hereford were hardly in it and midfielder Steve Leslie's effort from distance typified it before Bulls keeper Adam Bartlett superbly saved from Akinfenwa after he latched onto a Payne throw. The big striker had another chance to fire Gillingham in front moments later however, unmarked in the box, he failed to connect with McDonald's pass from the right. Comedy ensued after the break with McDonald and Akinfenwa colliding after both going for Barry Fuller's cross before Julian spared the Gills` blushes by saving from Fleetwood.
