Winnall takes it all for the Bulls

Substitute Sam Winnall fired Hereford to their first win of the season, his excellent strike five minutes from time securing a 1-0 victory over Dagenham.

Simon Clist should have opened the scoring in the early stages, shooting straight at goalkeeper Chris Lewington after Delroy Facey sent him through.

But Dagenham seemed set to take the lead when a linesman flagged for a penalty after Ryan Green's challenge on Gavin Tomlin, only for referee Bobby Madley to overrule him.

With the action switching from end to end, Clist went close again on the stroke of half-time with a shot which deflected on to the top of the crossbar.

Chances were no easier to find after the interval but Oliver Lee sent a shot skidding wide for the visitors from a promising position.

Hereford perked up a little with the arrival of substitutes Tom Barkhuizen and Winnall but the match seemed destined for a goalless draw until five minutes from the end.

Young loanee Winnall raced through from halfway before driving a low shot past Lewington from the edge of the area.
