Gills late show bamboozles Bulls

Gavin Tomlin struck deep into injury-time to make it 5-4 as Gillingham edged a nine-goal thriller against Hereford at the Priestfield Stadium.

The Bulls twice threw away a two-goal lead and Gills keeper Paulo Gazzaniga saved a 90th-minute penalty from Rob Purdie before Tomlin struck late on to grab the win.

Hereford came flying out of the traps and on-loan striker Tom Barkhuizen won a penalty that skipper Purdie converted before then firing home himself to double their lead inside the first seven minutes.

But back came Gillingham and strikes either side of half-time from Chris Whelpdale and Danny Kedwell levelled the scores.

The visitors responded in fine fashion and 18-year-old Barkhuizen continued to impress as he bundled home his second goal in the 70th minute before Will Evans looked to have wrapped up the win with an 80th-minute header, restoring the two-goal lead.

However, Andy Hessenthaler's men refused to lie down and second-half substitute Charlie Lee stroked the ball home in the 81st and 88th minutes to level it up at 4-4.

The drama was not over there though as Gazzaniga turned away Purdie's spot-kick before Tomlin sealed and incredible win with a volley deep into injury time.
