Zaliukas' absence for Hearts

Mystery surrounded the absence of Hearts captain Marius Zaliukas after he missed the 4-0 defeat to Rangers in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. The defender was left out of the squad for the visit to Ibrox, with Jambos boss Jim Jefferies revealing he only learned on gameday the player was unavailable. However, Jefferies refused to divulge any more details when quizzed after the match, saying only: "He wasn't available for selection - that's as much as I'm going to say on it." Asked if he will be back for Wednesday's visit of Celtic, Jefferies added: "No idea." First-half goals from Nikica Jelavic, Kyle Lafferty and Steven Davis, as well as a late own goal from Ryan Stevenson, sealed a comfortable win for Rangers, but Jefferies was left bemoaning the decision to send off Eggert Jonsson. He said: "For me it was a bad decision to send Eggert Jonsson off. It was a tackle, it was a foul, but I don't think it was serious enough to warrant a red card. "Then, it was just a matter of trying to keep things at bay at that time. I didn't slaughter any of my players after the game due to the team I had to put out. They tried hard but unfortunately things conspired against us. The damage was done in the first half."
