The youth will out - Hughes

Hibernian manager John Hughes has vowed to continue giving youth its chance after bringing teenager Lewis Horner into the first team during Saturday's 4-0 friendly victory against Dunfermline. The Tyneside-born midfielder - a member of Hibs' under-19 squad - was handed a chance at East End Park after impressing Hughes in training. The Hibs boss fast-tracked David Wotherspoon and Paul Hanlon into the first team at the start of last season and has given hope to the latest batch of youngsters that they could follow. Hughes told his club's official website: "Everyone could see that we are a club, who will give youth a chance. "At the end there, other than (Derek) Riordan, (Michael) Hart and (Graeme) Smith, everyone was 21 and under. "As long as they want to keep learning, then I will work with them all day long. Last year Wotherspoon and Hanlon hit the ground running and have become first team regulars. "Wotherspoon, since we came back, has been outstanding. He played right-back for us in the first half and left-wing in the second. It is important to show the under-19s that there is light at the end of the tunnel and something to aim for."
