Michael Stewart has completed his move from Hearts to Turkish club Genclerbirligi on a reported one-year contract.

The 29-year-old midfielder was released by the Jambos, with his deal due to expire this summer. He joins Billy Mehmet at Genclerbirligi, the striker having left St Mirren almost two weeks ago with his contract set to run out.

Stewart, who reportedly has the option of extending his stay in Turkey for another two years, said in the Scotsman: "Signing for Genclerbirligi brings a new excitement and new things to accomplish. They are a very professional club."

Edinburgh-born Stewart's Hearts career looked over after he was replaced as captain by manager Jim Jefferies four games before the end of the season.

His angry response to that decision ensured he did not featured for the remainder of the campaign.

Genclerbirligi finished 10th in the Turkish top-flight last season, 28 points behind champions Bursaspor.
