Stewart makes switch to Turkey

Midfielder Michael Stewart has completed his move from Hearts to Turkish club Genclerbirligi on a reported one-year contract.[LNB] The 29-year-old was released by the Jambos, with his deal due to expire this summer.[LNB]He joins Billy Mehmet at Genclerbirligi, the striker having left St Mirren almost two weeks ago with his contract set to run out.[LNB]Stewart, who reportedly has the option of extending his stay in Turkey for another two years, said in the Scotsman: "Signing for Genclerbirligi brings a new excitement and new things to accomplish. They are a very professional club."[LNB]Edinburgh-born Stewart's Hearts career looked over after he was replaced as captain by manager Jim Jefferies four games before the end of the season.[LNB]His angry response to that decision ensured he did not featured for the remainder of the campaign.[LNB]Genclerbirligi finished 10th in the Turkish top-flight last season, 28 points behind champions Bursaspor.[LNB]
