Skacel signs short-term deal

Hearts midfielder Rudi Skacel has agreed a new short-term contract until the end of January, the Scottish Premier League club have announced.[LNB] The 32-year-old former Czech Republic midfielder's existing deal was set to expire next month, a year after he made his return to Tynecastle.[LNB]After a turbulent week, which saw Jim Jefferies replaced as manager by Paulo Sergio, the new deal provided some positive news ahead of Thursday night's Europa League qualifying third round second-leg tie with Hungary's Paks.[LNB]A statement on the club's official website read: "Hearts today announce that Rudi Skacel has signed a new contract with the club.[LNB]"The new agreement will see the 32-year-old extend his stay at Tynecastle until the end of January 2012, handing new boss Paulo Sergio a timely boost ahead of tonight's Europa League return against Paks.[LNB]"The Czech international was a huge hit during his first spell at the club when he helped the Jambos capture the Scottish Cup in 2006 before signing for Southampton for a reported £1.6million.[LNB]"Rudi embarked on his second stint in Gorgie in September 2010 and proved he had lost none of his goalscoring prowess, ending the campaign as Hearts' top scorer with 13 goals from 29 league games."[LNB]Skacel recovered from injury to come on as a substitute in last Sunday's 1-0 SPL loss to Dundee United and could be in contention to start on Thursday night.
