Rudi Skacel hopes to lead Hearts into the Europa League after completing his return to Tynecastle.

The 31-year-old left for Southampton in a £1.6million deal after a successful season-long spell at Hearts which culminated in the 2006 Scottish Cup success. After a four-year absence, he completed a return to Hearts on Thursday on a one-year deal with a 12-month option, admitting he was "wrong" to depart after scoring 17 times in his first spell.

"I feel confident that I can play good football here and we will see and hopefully the boys will help me and we can try and fly up the table and attack for the Europa League," he told the club's official website, www.heartsfc.co.uk.

"I'm glad I'm back.

"I was very successful at Hearts, but I was young and at the time I trusted various people telling me it was the right time for me to go, but I was wrong.

"Now I want to put the past behind me and I am very happy that the club gave me another chance to show my best and restore my career."

Skacel is optimistic he will feature in the September 25 match with Motherwell.

"Motherwell has to be the target for me," he added.

"I need a few days. We will see but I believe I will be ready."
