Hearts winger Suso Santana will miss the final four matches of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League season after undergoing knee surgery, manager Jim Jefferies has confirmed.

The Spaniard has been carrying the problem, but the Hearts boss took the decision to send him for surgery on Wednesday.

Jefferies said: "A couple of weeks ago he was supposed to go for an operation. He felt he could maybe play on."

He added: "The more he's tried it, the more damage he's caused - the result was he went for an operation (on Wednesday)."

Andy Webster went off at half-time in the 3-3 draw with Motherwell with a groin strain, but Jefferies is optimistic the defender will face Kilmarnock on Saturday.

The Hearts boss added: "He went for a scan earlier in the week. It didn't show anything.

"He's not trained in the early part of the week.

"We'll keep our fingers crossed he'll be okay (for Saturday)."
