McGlynn: SPL thriving without Gers

Hearts manager John McGlynn insists the Scottish Premier League is exciting without Rangers - and believes it could thrive without Celtic too. With the SPL teams having all played each other, aside from Dundee United's fixtures against Celtic and Motherwell, only eight points separate leaders Celtic from 11th-placed St Mirren. It makes for an exciting first season since Rangers were consigned to liquidation and forced to start again at the foot of the Scottish Football League. Rangers chief executive Charles Green has revived the debate about a European league in recent weeks, claiming his club would be at the forefront of any such movement. And McGlynn feels Scotland's other clubs would boost their attendances if both Old Firm clubs moved on. McGlynn said: "If you look at the league table there are only six points between second top and second bottom. "And who would have thought that going into November that Celtic would only be two points clear? "And take Celtic out the league and who could predict anything? It's so tight and evenly-balanced that each team could beat each other. "I think it could be entirely exciting, I think it is exciting. Most people will predict Celtic will win the league and I don't think that has changed. "How many fans would think they could win the league if Celtic weren't in it at this stage? They would all fancy their chances of winning that league. "That would cause great excitement and bring fans back to the game. "If you look at the capacity of stadiums now, we would all fill those stadiums if we realistically thought we had a chance of winning the league."
