It could have been oh so different

What might have been will be the legacy of season 2009-10. Hearts' season is ending on a whimper when it could have been so different as the Jambos charged to within four points of city rivals Hibs. The Easter Road side at one point held an 18 point advantage but the drop in their form combined with Jim Jeffries driving his side forward the gap was closed. Wednesday saw an opportunity to get within a point but it was lost as the Jambos could only secure a draw against Dundee United while Hibs and Motherwell were sharing 12 goals at Fir Park. The results put paid to any hopes of finishing fourth or fifth and qualifying for the Europa League barring a massive goal swing. Midfielder Ruben Palazuelos believes a less eventful season next time round will see Hearts achieve their aims. He said: "You see Motherwell and Hibs draw. If you win, you probably stay there for Europe. These things happen in football. This season has been very, very strange. Lot of things have happened. Too many injuries, a change of manager."
