Hearts sign Wilson on loan from Liverpool
Published : 18 Jan 2013 20:46:54
Scottish Premier League club Hearts signed Liverpool defender Danny Wilson on loan on Friday just 24 hours after their transfer embargo was lifted.
The Scottish Premier League ended the transfer ban after Hearts' players were paid on time in January following recent delays and Wilson immediately joined the Edinburgh club on a six-month loan deal.
The former Rangers defender struggled to win a first-team place at Anfield and has spent time on loan at Blackpool and Bristol City since leaving Ibrox in July 2010.
Wilson, 21, has made just nine appearances for Liverpool, but Hearts manager John McGlynn believes he will prove a valuable addition and the centre-back could make his debut against Scottish champions Celtic on Saturday.
"Danny is a quality player and someone we know a lot about," McGlynn said.
"Even at such a young age, he brings a lot of experience and not only will he be a very good addition to our squad, he will be a good influence on the young players we have here.
"He has been playing regularly down south so fitness won't be a problem, and hopefully it won't be long before we see him in a Hearts shirt."
Wilson admits he can't wait to get his Hearts career underway after a disappointing spell with Liverpool.
"I just got the call this morning and I can't wait to get started," he said.
"I need to play football and I've been told I'll get the opportunity to come here and play. That's the most important thing.
"I always keep in touch with the SPL and watch a lot of football, and once I knew Hearts were interested I was delighted to come up."
