Hearts overcome Well to move top

Hearts took advantage of a Celtic slip-up to move to the top of the Ladbrokes Premiership following a 2-0 win against Motherwell.

The Jambos took the lead from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute after Sam Nicholson was hauled down by Scott McDonald. Gavin Reilly stepped up to send Connor Ripley the wrong way.

Billy King made it two for the home side after 64 minutes with an angled strike into the bottom corner to secure the points and maintain their 100 per cent record since returning to the top flight.

A late penalty from Kallum Higginbotham snatched Kilmarnock a point as they held Celtic to a 2-2 draw.

It took the reigning champions just three minutes to open the scoring as Kris Commons sent Leigh Griffiths clear and he coolly slotted home his second league goal of the season.

Kilmarnock hauled themselves level before the break when Josh Magennis got in front of his marker to prod home, but Celtic were back in front after 55 minutes when Nir Bitton unleashed a stunning 30-yard shot into the top corner.

That looked to be enough for the visitors until Emilio Izaguirre brought down Greg Kiltie in the area and Higginbotham stepped up to equalise with a cheeky chipped penalty.

Chances were at a premium in the night's other game, as Inverness played out a goalless draw with Partick.

Steven Lawless came closest to scoring a winner for the visitors but goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams tipped his fierce effort onto the crossbar.
