Hearts hopeful over Aberdeen clash

Hearts have assured fans they were confident of repairing weather-related damage to Tynecastle ahead of Saturday's scheduled visit of Aberdeen.

The club began a clean-up operation on Monday after falling ice and snow pulled down sections of piping and iron gutter in the Main Stand. Hearts have seen their two most recent Clydesdale Bank Premier League games postponed because of snow and are keen to avoid a hat-trick.

A club statement read: "Some damage has been caused after the snow and ice came off the roof of the Main Stand. We are working hard to resolve the issues and are confident they will not prevent the game against Aberdeen from going ahead."

The statement continued: "We are liaising with the relevant authorities and have kept Aberdeen informed of the situation. We remain hopeful of staging the match on Saturday."

However, fresh snowfall across Scotland on Monday caused further damage to the country`s fixture list and raised fears of more disruption at the weekend.

All 14 midweek games due to take place in the Scottish Football League and Scottish Cup have already been postponed. Only one match took place at the weekend, Alloa's 2-2 Irn-Bru Second Division draw against Peterhead on the artificial surface Recreation Park.

The cold weather is set to continue over the coming days, however it is understood that the Scottish Premier League will not repeat their early decision on their games this week.

The SPL called off all six weekend matches on Wednesday for safety reasons, to avoid fans travelling on icy and snow-covered roads.

Most managers agreed with the decision but Inverness boss Terry Butcher dissented over the postponement of his side's home match against Dundee United, pointing out that the A9 had been in worse condition the previous weekend when his club travelled to face Celtic.

Many roads had cleared by the weekend and it is understood the SPL will wait until later in the week before making any decisions this time, especially given the latest weather predictions.
