Hearts cruise to win

Hearts eased into the third round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Third Division strugglers Elgin City. There was no hint of a giant-killing at Tynecastle as Jim Jefferies' charges snuffed out the visitors' threat with two first-half strikes. Eggert Jonsson provided the 11th-minute breakthrough with a close-range finish after a goalmouth scramble before Kevin Kyle scored his first Tynecastle goal soon after the half-hour mark with a trademark header. Arvydas Novikovas, the Lithuanian midfielder, claimed an impressive third finishing off a flowing move with an 18-yard drive before Hearts goalkeeper Janos Balogh got down at his near post to block out Craig Gunn's close-range chance. Substitute Scott Robinson then wrapped up the scoring for the Jambos late on when he clipped in a late fourth.
