Hard work starts next week

There will be no easing into the preparations for season 2010-11 for the returning Hearts players. Jim Jeffries is keen to have a successful season. The hard work for the new season starts next week when Jim Jeffries heads to  Riccarton to prepare the pre-season training schedule for the player. He has already warned them they are in for the tough time. There will be new faces in the squad gathering with striker Kevin Kyle from Kilmarnock and defender Darren Barr from Falkirk donning the Hearts training kit. There is still the chance of Craig Bryson being brought to Tynecastle to link up with Kyle again if a transfer fee can be agreed with Kilmarnock. Hearts take on St Johnstone on 14 August when the season kicks off and Jeffries wants his players to be in peak condition. He said: "We've got a good pre-season organised, some tough matches, and whilst it's not about the results, we want to make sure that we peak just in time for the St Johnstone game. I'm pleased to start at home. We don't underestimate anyone, because it is such a tight league. St Johnstone had a terrific season last year so we know they will be strong opponents. It can sometimes be a bit apprehensive taking on the first game of the season, especially when expectation is high, but we'll be looking to put in a strong performance."Jefferies is really looking forward to locking horns with friend John Hughes' Hibs side for the New Year's Day Edinburgh derby at Tynecastle. Jeffries said: "That's one you look out for on the list. They are already special games so it's good to be at home."
