Jose Goncalves has aimed a parting shot at the Hearts hierarchy as he prepares to end a four-and-a-half-year stay at Tynecastle.[LNB] The defender is out of contract this summer and refused to sign an extended deal.[LNB]That saw him frozen out of the team by manager Jim Jefferies, who insisted he would not play the 24-year-old contract rebel.[LNB]Goncalves told the Edinburgh Evening News: "I was very upset to be honest; it's just not fair.[LNB]"I don't think it's fair for any player at any club. If a player does not want to sign, it doesn't matter the reason, you must play him.[LNB]"It can just make things worse between the player, the manager and the club. I think you must play your best team, this is what football is all about.[LNB]"The negotiations were that they asked me if I wanted to sign this contract. I told them why and why not. At Hearts it is very difficult to negotiate with the owner of the club. I was told if I don't sign the contract I will not play and I was feeling very upset with the way they treated me.[LNB]"If I thought the right thing was to sign, then I would sign and be very happy. But because things were not very nice for myself I decided not to sign. I think I made the right choice.[LNB]"It's not about the offer, it's about the respect and the principles. I have principles in life. You must respect the players to achieve a lot of things and progress.[LNB]"If the club does not respect the player, everything goes wrong. I will not sign just because they put me under pressure."[LNB]Goncalves' lack of involvement did not prevent him bidding an emotional farewell to Hearts supporters in Sunday's final Scottish Premier League game of the season against Celtic.[LNB]Goncalves, who revealed his next move would likely be to Italy, Spain or Germany, added: "When the referee blew the final whistle, I realised how much I will miss Hearts. I will miss the atmosphere and a lot of the people in Scotland.[LNB]"It was quite emotional and I didn't expect that, it just came. I was very upset."[LNB]Meanwhile, David Obua is recovering from Monday's groin surgery.[LNB]"It went very well and now the recovery process is under way," he told Hearts News Today.[LNB]"I have a programme to follow over the summer to make sure I get back fully fit.[LNB]"I'll go over to see my family in Uganda and spend some time with them and then come back to Edinburgh ready for the new season."[LNB]Fellow midfielder Ryan Stevenson will miss the first two games of the new SPL campaign.[LNB]His booking against Celtic on Sunday took him through the suspension threshold, triggering the two-match ban.
