Elliott on a high

Hearts signing Stephen Elliott is determined to make his "brilliant week" the turning point in his career after ending an unhappy spell at Preston.

The striker signed for Hearts on Monday before celebrating the birth of his fourth child the following day. The Republic of Ireland international is now looking to hit the goal trail again as he links up with former Sunderland team-mate Kevin Kyle.

Elliott told Hearts News: "To be honest the last couple of years haven't been great and I haven't played as much as I would have liked. I found out about Hearts' interest a couple of weeks ago. I came up to have a look around and was impressed by the facilities and the manager."

He added: "Kevin Kyle, who is a good friend of mine, had told me all about Jim Jefferies, and as soon as I met him I had a good impression of him.

"Hearts is a big club in Scotland and I'm really looking forward to getting my career going again here.

"I am feeling fit and can't wait to get out there and score goals again. The more training and more games I play, the better understanding I'll have with everyone."

Elliott could make his debut in the opening Clydesdale Bank Premier League weekend when Hearts host St Johnstone.

"It really has been a brilliant week for me after the birth of my daughter," the 26-year-old added.

"It's all been pretty hectic but I'm over the moon."
