Elliot could make Sunday game

Jim Jefferies is not taking any chances with Calum Striker Calum Elliot will have a scan on his injured knee which will hopefully reveal he is in with a chance of facing Dundee United on Sunday. The in-form striker, who has scored three goals in his first two SPL games this season, missed Tuesday night's 4-0 Co-operative Insurance Cup win over Elgin City thanks to picking up the injury in training ahead of the game. Tynecastle medical staff had originally suspected cartilage trouble but the Hearts doctor has told Jim Jefferies the injury is not as bad as initially feared and the player was to be scanned purely as a precaution. Jefferies said: "It's not the knee he had problems with before, it's the other one. He caught his studs in the turf as he turned and we feared the worst. The doctor looked at it last night and it looks like it's not as bad as we feared. We thought it might have been his cartilage but the doc doesn't think so. We will scan it just to get it right but the doc doesn't think it's the cartilage. If that's right he'll have a chance for the weekend. It was a blow to us that Calum wasn't available last night because we would have played him with him being on fire right now. He's probably wishing he did play because he might have got a few goals as we were in such command."
