Away goal could prove vital

Next Thursday will see Hearts take on Paks again with the advantage of an away goal. Jim Jefferies admitted Jamie Hamill's away goal in their Europa League draw with Paks could prove vital as Hearts head home from Hungary with an away goal in the bag. The Jambos had to come from behind in the third qualifying round first leg to earn a1-1 draw and will look to make the most of home advantage next Thursday for the return leg. Paks scored first when Istvan Sipeki delivered a 32nd-minute lead with a lob over Marian Kello from the edge of the box. But Hamill converted a penalty in first-half stoppage time when John Sutton was awarded a spot-kick after appearing to be wrestled to the ground by Tibor Heffler. Jefferies said: "We came here to get an away goal and we've accomplished that. It will be a different game in Edinburgh and we'll have the big crowd. I thought we started the game well, we were pretty dominant in possession. We were doing all the right things and their goal was against the run of play. Their boy took it well but Ian Black was off the park at the time getting treatment and Paks cashed in on an opportunity. We were the better side I felt and we got a break on half-time with the goal." On his Hearts and European debut, Hamill was calmness personified as he scored from 12 yards to secure the draw and Jefferies praised the midfielder for his composure in front of goal. He said: "There was only one person ever going to take the penalty and he put it away well. It's a big goal in Europe because it's an away goal. Paks defended very well, they were difficult to break down because they sit in and hit you on the break. We were pleased not to lose the game and to get a goal."
