Wilson laments naive defending

Hartlepool United manager Danny Wilson was stunned by his side's naive defending in the 4-1 drubbing at Leeds United.

Pools have already conceded 29 goals this season in their 17 League One matches, a record that Wilson knows is simply not good enough.

He told the Northern Echo: "We have to be tougher at the back and we have to defend. We can't be expected to score three or four every week to win games.

"The penny hasn't dropped yet, but it has to.

"Leeds gave a powerful performance, but only when they got their nose in front. The third killed us off and until then we were massively in the game.

"We gave them two sloppy goals at the end, which I won't say flattered them but, in the context of the game, I'm disappointed with it.

"We conceded two soft goals and that's the story of our season."
