Wadsworth fury as late penalty costs Pools
Published : 20 Nov 2010 20:30:33
Hartlepool manager Mick Wadsworth described referee Oliver Langford's stoppage-time penalty decision in his side's 3-2 defeat at Colchester as "absolutely comprehensively ludicrous".Langford adjudged Peter Hartley to have handled in the penalty area and Ian Henderson stepped up to despatch a 92nd-minute winner for Colchester.Pools went ahead in the 28th minute through Paul Murray before Andrew Bond equalised. Kayode Odejayi scored from close range to put Colchester in front but Evan horwood's 88th-minute equaliser appeared to have earned Pools a point before Henderson's late penalty.Wadworth said: "Colchester is a difficult place to come to, but I honestly think we were the better team."(The penalty) was a metre outside of the box and I don't think it was even handball. The ball has hit his (Hartley's) hand and for him to give a penalty is absolutely comprehensively ludicrous."It just makes you think what the hell do we work all week for? The linesman didn't give a penalty and it's crazy. But we can't dwell on it and feel sorry for ourselves. I'm just incensed because if there's any doubt, how can you give it to the attacking team?"
