Turner pleased with response

Caretaker manager Chris Turner was delighted with Hartlepool United's display in Friday's impressive 3-0 victory against Southend United.

Four days after parting company with Danny Wilson, Pools eased their way to their first League One win in seven games thanks to a Kevin Kyle brace and a Matty Robson strike.

Turner said: "I have to say the players have been extremely professional, worked very hard and listened to what's been said over the last couple of days.

"It was very difficult conditions to play in during the first half and, until the second goal went in, I think Southend were proving very difficult opponents.

"The early goal was very pleasing and gave us something to build on and I think the second came at the right time - it was a great strike by Matty too.

"After what's happened this week I felt it was important to get that win, especially in our home game, and hopefully we can build on that now."
