Sweeney eyes Pools stay

Hartlepool United midfielder Anthony Sweeney insists he is in no rush to leave the club even though he remains on the Victoria Park transfer list.

The 24-year-old, whose current contract expires at the end of this season, has spent his entire career with Pools but was transfer-listed last month.

"I'd rather not talk about the contract situation because it's just something in the background,'' Sweeney told the Northern Echo.

"I've never said I wouldn't sign a contract, it's just not at the minute. We'll just see where it goes.

"I've never said I want to leave the club. I've been here seven years now. I think at 24 I'm the second-longest serving player. It's a big part of my life, I live in the town as well.''
