Hartlepool United winger Andy Monkhouse will go under the knife for an exploratory operation on a long-running knee injury.

Monkhouse, 27, has been sidelined for the last three weeks and Pools boss Danny Wilson is hoping the operation will reveal the exact nature of the problem.

He told the club's official website: "Once we know the results from this surgery we'll be in a position to say how long he'll be out.

"At the moment it's causing him some trouble, so the decision had to be taken to see if we can find out what the problem is."
