Porter hopes for chance

Hartlepool United striker Joel Porter hopes his midweek goal heroics will earn him place in the next starting line-up. The 28-year-old has started just one match this season, but came off the bench to fire a hat-trick during Tuesday's 5-2 Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory at Lincoln City. "It's hard sometimes because we all want to be playing in the first team every week," he told the Hartlepool Mail. "But I was given a chance and hopefully I've taken it and given the manager something to think about. "The boys played well and I was lucky enough to be there to get three goals. "I was delighted with the outcome. I started on the bench, but the gaffer had thoughts of what he was going to do and put me on early. "That was my first hat-trick for Hartlepool, it's been a long time in coming but I was delighted with it. One in the league would be nice now."
